DIY Framed Spiderweb

My daughter is obsessed with Halloween spiders. She sneaks those small plastic ones in her pants pocket and takes them to pre-school with her. Ummm, she did not learn this from me. I am not a lover of spiders. I have grown more brave since I have grown a garden. Those naughty little daddy long legs like to sneak out while I am trying to weed, hence the lack of weeding in my garden. But who am I if not a wonderful mother who wants to make life size spider webs for my sweet girl? This is a quick project you can make in a short amount of time. The best part about it, you can reuse an old picture frame or pick up one at a thrift store. Would you believe me if I said I always have some stashed in my closet. I NEVER get rid of a frame. You never know when you’ll need it!
Supplies:
- Picture frame
- Staple gun
- Yarn
- Paint
So, out I went to sit on my porch and create as few spider webs to add to my decor. I will tell you right now, if you don’t have an electric staple gun, GO GET ONE NOW. They are lovely, and really quite reasonable priced. I purchased mine from Amazon, and you can find one here.
The first thing I did was paint my frame. The bright red just didn’t go with my style.
Don’t be surprised, I painted it white
I stapled the yarn onto the back of the frame. Sometimes I need to secure the yarn by tapping on the staple with a hammer.
I pulled the yarn taut and stapled the other side and cut it off.
Add a few more lines of yarn, all intersecting each other.
I then start at the center. I cut a piece of yarn and began tying it tightly to each strand, creating a crooked looking hexagram. 6 sides right?
I then repeat the process as many times as needed.
When you are done adding web layers, you are done. I think they are a great addition to my front porch!
Give it a try! I kind of love adding fun Halloween decor with a little style. Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it to! I have been a busy little bee since coming back from vacation. I have tons of fun ideas to feature here so stick around and check back! I’m not done with Halloween and Fall yet, but oh boy do I have some great Christmas ideas coming up!

This is definitely a spooky project. Don’t like spiders – it would definitely give me the willy’s. But still cute. Cathy

What a fun idea! I got pro at using the staple gun on our front porch, since it took me forever to get our spider webs up. I may have to give it some more practice and make a few of these too.
Aren’t staple guns the best! Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for sharing Sara, it looks awesome! The staple gun is a brilliant idea too. I’m going to pin this 🙂
Thanks!
This is super cute! I always have some extra frames around as well. I bet the grandson would enjoy one of these framed spider webs. He could probably even help me some. Thanjs for sharing!
