Roasted Peach Dessert with Cheesecake Mousse and Basil
Once upon a time, I worked at a small upscale restaurant in our town as a pastry chef. Now, I wont say I was a pro, but I have certain recipes I made, and I enjoyed creating and baking weekly for the restaurant. That feels like it was so long ago. But, the love for cooking has never gone away. I think this is something you may not know about me. Since my blog is mostly focused on DIY and home decor, but I have been yearning to add more recipes to Twelve On Main and today I am excited to share a fun spin off dessert inspired by Joanna Gaines and my time working at that little restaurant. This sweet treat includes homemade cheesecake mousse, along with roasted peaches, and more all combined into a decadent peach dessert.
Today I am excited to be joining some of my favorite bloggers once again to share one of our favorites. Today we are being inspired by Joanna Gaines. With her new recipe book blowing off the shelves, we decided to dig in, and find something we love and turn it into something of our own, inspired by Magnolia Table, by Joanna Gaines.
As I flipped through my personal copy of Magnolia Table, I found many recipes that were similar to ones that I already made at home. Some of them seem like old classics that most people have their own version of. I love that about her recipe book. But, I knew instantly which recipe I was going to be inspired by. It was a roasted peach dessert with thyme, ice cream and balsamic vinegar.
It sounded so delicious, but I knew there was something else I would want to do to it. So, I changed a few ingredients up, added my favorite cheesecake mousse, and voila, I have my roasted peach dessert with cheesecake mouse, basil, balsamic reduction and some honey for sweetness.
Jump to RecipeNow, you may be thinking huh? Vinegar? Well, its pretty common these days to use Balsamic vinegar to counter act the sweetness of a dessert. Once it is reduced, it gives off an acidic sweetness of its own that pairs very well with stone fruits, berries and more. It also goes well with ice creams and mousses.
How to make my Magnolia Table inspired roasted peach dessert:
There are a few things that you can do in order to prep for this recipe. Yesterday I shared my favorite cheesecake mousse recipe. This mousse is what I use for this dessert. This can be made ahead of time so that you can simply assemble this dessert once the peaches are roasted.
You can also prepare your balsamic reduction ahead of time. Simply take 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar and heat it in a saucepan, letting it boil on medium heat until it has reduced by half. It will thicken as it cools.
These things can be done ahead of time. Once you are ready to make this peach dessert, it’s really quite straight forward.
The peaches need to be roasted, and the basil needs to be finely chopped. Here are what my peaches looked like under the broiler:
There is something so wonderful about roasted peaches. The flavors are more rich, there is a depth of deliciousness.
The balsamic glaze and basil are the perfect partners to the peaches and mousse. I promise if you try this you will be converted. I made these the other day and my kids snatched them up as after school snacks! They all loved it!

Roasted Peach Dessert with Cheesecake Mousse, Basil with a Balsamic Reduction
Ingredients
- 4 Peaches
- 1 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp chopped basil
- 1/4 cup balsamic reduction or balsamic vinegar
- 1 batch of my Cheesecake Mousse recipe You can see the link below
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon(optional)
Instructions
- Make your Balsamic vinegar reduction. SImply heat 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar in a sauce pan on medium heat. Let it come to a soft boil. Let it reduce by half and turn off the oven. As it cools it will thicken up. Set aside.
- Before you start you want to make sure you have a batch of my Cheesecake Mousse made. It can be stored in the fridge a day before. Turn on your broiler and while it is heating up slice your peaches in half. Lay them cut side down on a pan
- Prepare your honey/butter combination. I used my locally sourced creamed honey. It has cinnamon and ground pecans in it. It is divine and tastes so wonderful with this dessert. You can use regular honey or add a touch of cinnamon to your butter/honey mixture. Melt the butter and honey together and mix them.
- Once you have your honey/butter mixed up, put your peaches in the oven and put them on the middle or bottom rack depending on the strength of your broiler. I have a professional stove and thus it is strong so I put mine on the bottom rack.
- Let them roast for about 3 minutes, or until the skins of the peach start to blister and get toasted spots
- Take your peaches out of the oven, and flip them over putting the cut side up. Take a pastry brush and brush the honey/butter mixture to the tops of the peaches. This will fill up the little hole from where the pit was.
- Next, put them back in the oven and broil them for another 3-4 minutes or until they are slightly toasted on the top. DO NOT LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED IN THE BROILER! They can quickly burn.
- Take them out of the oven and let them cool. At this point you will notice the skins will simply fall off the peaches. I take them off and throw them in the trash. Move the peaches to a different plate or platter to cool. If you serve them hot your mousse will melt.
- Take 2 peach halves and place them on a dish. You can top them with the cheesecake mousse, or you can put the mousse in a bowl and top it with the peaches.
- Sprinkle the peaches and mousse with finely chopped basil and a drizzle of balsamic reduction.
- I have found this can be made a couple hours in advance and put in the fridge. It can be served fresh and warm or cold from the fridge. It is so delicious! Dont worry about leftovers, you wont have any!
