Trash to Treasure- Chalkboard Planter

If you are like me, you love a good find.  One of my favorite pastimes is to go out and scour through junk piles wherever I can find them.  Of course, I have my favorites.  While I was at one of my favorite junk piles, I came across this odd container of sorts.

Chalkboard Planter

This chalkboard planter had a new life! | Twelveonmain.comFrom what we could tell it looked like it was used as come sort of concrete form, since there was concrete all over it.  I looked past the concrete and saw the potential.  It had this really cool shape to it, with a wood divider in the middle.  It was made out of all different types of plywood, so just sanding and leaving it raw wasn’t really an option.  So I did what any sensible woman would do, I cleaned it up, and painted it with chalk paint.  With those large sides it was speaking to me.  This was a perfect place to create some fun summer artwork or wordy decor.

Painting it was simple enough.

2 Coats of black chalkboard paint.  I did not paint the inside since I was going to be adding dirt and flowers. I did paint the top part that would still be showing however.

Once it had dried, I sanded down the edges a bit.   I planted some sweet little white Dahlias in the planter and to top it off, a little bit of chalkboard art.

I really like the way my chalkboard planter turned out.  I had to fight my strongest urge to paint it white….and I still am, even though I love it, it is still there, in the back of my mind.

It is a large planter, and it really stands out against the white farmhouse picnic table.  It definitely takes center stage.

One more summer project crossed off the list.  Do you have any fun projects you are working on?  I would love to hear about them!
