I always love perusing the frame section of a thrift store.  You can find some really great gems there.  I found this simple oak frame recently, and for 25 cents, I figured I could use it somewhere in my home.

Here is what I used for this framed moss wall decor:

I took the simple frame and gave it a coat of milk paint, just to soften the color and give it a more weathered look affect.  I used a soft tan milk paint for this.

No need to take the glass out of the frame, unless you want to add something else instead, but I just left it as is.  No need to even tape it off, it is just fine if paint gets on it.

Once the paint was dry, I applied hot glue in small batches and pressed the moss into the hot glue.  Cover the whole glass in this same way.  It is such a cool look!

Once the moss completely covers the glass you can keep it as is or add some simple decor to it.  I have tried it with two different options.   Tie a few flowers together and hang them from some twine.  Its a sweet addition.

You can also use inexpensive paper doilies, like I did here.  A simple “spring” written on the doily is a fun way to decorate the framed moss wall decor.

Here are some other great ways to use this framed moss wall decor:

  • Hang a wooden or metal letter over the framed moss wall decor
  • hang a small antler
  • pin or glue other flowers into the moss to add a more feminine look
  • Pin a page from one of your favorite books or a quote that you love
  • Make a few extra framed moss wall decor pieces and hang them all together for an interesting gallery wall.

Its a simple enough craft project to do.   So next time you’re in a thrift store, make sure to snatch up those old frames!

Make sure you PIN IT for later!

  1. So pretty, Sara! I LOVE moss; I think it has something to do with the fact that I can’t keep real plants alive, but moss I can do! 😉 LOVE that milk paint too, such a nice color.

  2. Moss is so fun to work with! My cats have a field day with it too. I love that you can change this up and make it work for any season or holiday. It is a great project and the perfect up-cycle!
