Voila Mattress Intro and Unboxing Review

You guys, I am so excited about this post today.  Now let me tell you why.  Over the past year, the hubs and I have been thinking about purchasing a new mattress for our bedroom.  After our master bedroom remodel this past spring, we realized it was time to change.  About 12 years ago, we purchased a sleep number bed, and really liked it for the most part.   My husband is one of the most high maintenance sleepers I have ever known, though, and he has always has a hard time finding the right firmness for him.  He likes a nice, soft bed.  

I was recently contacted by the Voila Mattress company, and I was instantly curious.  Upon researching their mattresses, I was ready to jump in and try them out!  It stated that it is a “hybrid performance mattress in a box”. It consists of 12 layers of memory foam, coils, and latex.

I ordered a California King, since my hubby is 6 ft 5, he needs a large mattress and that fits our bed frame.  

The bed came quickly, and they sent us some helpful information on how to unbox the mattress upon delivery.  You see, this mattress comes shipped to your door, in quite a small package….considering it is a mattress.  It is vacuum packed, and all the air is sucked out!

So, today I wanted to give you a little intro to how we received and unboxed this cool mattress, and how the first few days are going.

The unboxing of our Voila Mattress

The first thing I need to talk about is the unboxing of our Voila Mattress.  It is obviously gong to be a bit heavy, so we made sure to get as many hands to help carry it to our room.  Between me and my husband and 3 of our little kids, it was accomplished pretty easily.  

Once it was in our room, we too the mattress out of the box.  At this point, it is vacuum packed and rolled up nice and tight.  We lifted it onto the bed, cut the plastic ties holding the mattress together and unrolled it onto our bed. 

Once it was laid out where we wanted it, we went along the edge of the plastic on one end and cut it.  This was the cool part, and I have to tell you, our kids thought this was the most fun they had had all day.  The mattress inflated almost instantly.  It was so cool!

I wish I could get my kids to have this much enthusiasm when I want them to clean their rooms or do the dishes!  But, come on, that’s just not as cool as watching a mattress come back to life.

The instructions said it would take 2-4 hours to become fully inflated.  By the time we went to bed, it was ready to go.  

Now, lets talk about my first night sleep on my new Voila Mattress

All I have to say is either I was super tired, or this is proving to be the mattress of my dreams.  Literally.  I had barely laid down and I was out!  This is not something that usually happens to me.  It often takes me at least an hour to unwind and fall asleep.  When I woke up, I felt….well, pretty great!

Whenever I sleep on a new mattress, often times, my hips and lower back will get stiff and sore, and I noted that none of this happened with this Voila Mattress.

I am 3 sleeps in with this new mattress and have no complaints!  Now, I am not guaranteeing that this has all to do with the mattress, but so far I am sold.

Now, I need to talk about my husband.  I was really worried he would not be sold.  He is a very difficult sleeper, and often needs many pillows for support and still often times sleeps on the couch when he cant make the bed work.  So…..the first morning after sleeping in our Voila Mattress, he turned to me and said “I love this mattress”  He was excited to feel that it supported his lower back, while still feeling soft.   This made my life much easier!  I am thrilled that he likes this mattress, since he is one very hard man to impress when it comes to his sleep.

Now, I thought I would give you a bit of information on the exact mattress we got, in case this may be something you would be interested in.  And get this, you can try it for 100 nights and if you are not satisfied they will arrange to pickup the mattress.  You can replace it one time with any other mattress they have, or give a prompt refund.  I like the sound of that. 

So, that is what I am going to do.  Complete transparency here.  I am going to try this mattress for one month, and I am going to journal each morning, how we slept.  

I will note any sore or stiff body parts, length of sleep, the time it took to fall asleep, and how I felt in the morning.

The mattress we received:

We chose the Plush mattress in a california king.  This is the softest of their mattresses, and it rates at a 3.5 out of 10 for softness.   In my experience so far, it is not as soft as you may expect, and I am glad of that, because I don’t necessarily love a super soft mattress.  

Its like Goldilocks and the three bears.  This one feels just right.

I look forward to the next few weeks to see how things go!  I  already thrilled with this mattress, and hope to be even more as the days go by.  

The only thing of note that I may say I didn’t like about this mattress was the smell upon first opening the plastic  The bed had that “new” smell for about a day, and now I can’t smell it at all.  So just in case you are sensitive to smells, just beware of that, but like I said, it is gone now!
