Be The Best Hostess This Fall
I love the fall. The sights, the smells, and the family time. Thanksgiving is such a large part of my life. As a family we always meet up to have an unforgettable time. You can even call it a Thanksgathering. SC Johnson has coined this phrase this year and I love it.
With the Thanksgiving or Thankgathering season upon us, we are presented with all of the excitement, joy, and responsibility that comes with being a Hostess. Planning for family get-togethers can be overwhelming, and if you find yourself the hostess this year, take heart. You can be the best hostess without stressing yourself out.
Getting your home ready for guests, you can create an inviting and cozy space for your guests by doing a few simple things. Having a clean home is key. Keeping a sense of humor about it is important as well.
When your guests arrive and are greeted with a clean home, they know you have taken that effort to create an inviting space for them.
The other day while I was perusing the aisles at The Home Depot, I remembered I needed some cleaning supplies. Did you know they carry quite the large selection of cleaning supplies?
With all the craziness going on in my home with a few large remodels happening, I knew I needed to spruce things up before we have friends and family over.
Here are a few of the things I picked up to help prepare myself to be the best hostess this fall.
- Keeping a clean bathroom is key to being a successful hostess. Use Scrubbing Bubbles® Fresh Clean Scent Bathroom Cleaner to get that bathroom in tip-top shape. I like to give the toilet and sink a good cleaning. Even if you are in a crunch for time, you can use it to get it clean in just a few minutes.
- Adding a can of Glade® Apple Cinnamon Automatic Room Spray to the room is also a fantastic way to keep the space feeling nice. Not only is it good for those unpleasant odors that sometimes accompany our bathrooms, but the pleasant scents of apple and cinnamon are perfect for fall. Allow Glade® to evoke emotions that remind you of fall.
- Keep your kitchen clean with Pledge® Multisurface – Antibacterial. Before I begin working in my kitchen, I like to give everything a good cleaning. Plus, it smells so good too! When you keep a clean home, you can spend more of your time entertaining and spending time with those that you love. Make your home a reflection of you.
Once my home is clean and ready, I like to decorate. I am ready to be the best hostess this fall. One of my favorite ways to create an inviting space for my guests is by creating a family friendly tablescape.
I like to use unique and personal touches in my tablescapes. A really great start to a fantastic tablescape is by starting with some unique placemat ideas. This year I opted for some buffalo check fabric.
I cut it into placemats and even kept the raw edges. Something I love about decorating is keeping it natural, and not expending too much effort on something that will overwhelm you.
Something that is great to do is to mix and match patterns and colors, even neutral ones such as the ones I am using. Using plaids and stripes together is perfect Thanksgiving decor, and I love the way these striped napkins look with the buffalo check placemats.
I created a simple cotton ball napkin holder by using cotton balls, pine cone stems, and twine.
I added a simple inexpensive feather the napkin as well to add some more texture and interest to the space.
Don’t you think that patterns all look lovely together?
Creating an inviting tablescape doesn’t have to be overwhelming. A few pitchers with some sticks and fall foliage add height to the space.
The last thing that I did was add platter full of pine cones. Pine cones are a timeless accessory for fall and winter.
.
This tablescape is just one of the ways I like to create an inviting space for my family and friends. Don’t forget to check out SC Johnson’s Thanksgathering page for more details.
Now, I am off to finish up projects and get myself ready to be the best hostess this fall.
Have a great day and I hope that you are ready for Thanksgiving and all the fun things that come with it.

I like your fabric placemats. So pretty with the white. I noticed the divided basket in the corner of one of your pictures. I have the same basket, I think. It’s been in my pantry forever. I got it at “home basket party” in the 90s I think. Now I’m trying to remember the “brand name” of the party. It was similar to a Tupperware party, only baskets lol. Anyway, I’ve only used it for a candy tray during the holidays. Do you use yours for anything other than decor?
Hi! Thanks so much. I use mine mainly for decor.
What a beautiful table setting. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! [client]
