DIY Paper Bag Snowflakes

Hey friends! I am back with another fun craft/home decor item for Christmas! These paper bag snowflakes are so cool and easy to make!  We love making paper snowflakes here at our house and when I pulled out the big guns.  Brown paper sacks, a hot glue gun and some scissors and my daughter thought we were in heaven.

Last week I shared my paper bag wreath and these paper bag snowflakes aren’t much different except for a couple different steps.

Here is what you will need to make these paper bag snowflakes:

  • paper bags ( you can use any size, we had the brown lunch sizes )
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors
  • twine

You can watch this video to see how easy it is to make!

First lay one of your paper bags with the side that has the folded bottom facing up. Run a bead of glue along the bottom of the lag and right up the middle of the bag.  Lay another bag directly on top of the first bag and make sure its lined up.

Next glue along the base of the top bag, and right up the middle again and lay another bag onto this one. Repeat this process 8 times.  I have done some with 6-7, so just play around with yours and see what works for you.  It will be more full the more bags you use, and it will also get harder to cut the more you use.

The next step is to cut the edges into an angle on both sides.  your can cut them into a curved shape, that ends in a point, for leave it straight and pointed.

Now, cut along the sides of the paper bags.  I like to cut wedges out of the sides in different sizes.  You can also add cuts to the top.

Once you have all the cuts, take the ends and glue them together using the hot glue.  You will have a nice circular snowflake!

I glue a piece of twine to the back, usually in a crack of the snowflake.  This is how I hang them.

I hung mine above the mantel this year and I just love them!
