DIY Paper Wreath for the Holidays
Hey there friends! Now that Thanksgiving is over, its time to really go wild with the Christmas stuff! Like I wasn’t already doing that! Haha. Today my blogging friends and I are all sharing a new holiday wreath and I am sharing something a bit different! Its a snowflake, paper wreath using brown paper bags!
I got this inspiration when I was making giant snowflakes with brown paper bags. I thought making a paper wreath in the same way would be really cool, so I gave it a try.
First, here are the supplies you will need to make this paper wreath:
- brown paper bags
- hot glue gun
- scissors
- wire wreath form or cardboard cut in the shape of a wreath
- twine to hang it
WATCH THIS VIDEO ON HOW I MADE THIS PAPER WREATH:
First, take your hot glue and run a bead along the center of the folded side of the paper bag from the bottom to the top.
Lay another paper bag directly on top, facing the same direction as the first paper bag. Repeat this process until you have about 8 bags. Now, cut off the folded side of the paper bag, about 4-5 inches, up to where the fold is.
Now, you can start cutting and shaping your paper wreath like you would for a snowflake. Cut the tops in the a point, narrowing in the center. Then along the sides, cut triangles, make slices, and kind of design you can think of with your scissors.
Now, pull the paper bag pile apart and it will be like an accordion, or those paper dolls we used to make. take the two ends of the paper bags and hot glue them together creating a circle.
Next, take the round cardboard or metal wreath form and lay the paper wreath over the top. Mark 4 equal spots on the form, so we have 4 places to glue the wreath to.
Take the top and glue one spot onto the form on the mark, now do one directly opposite on the bottom. Next, do the left side and then the right side. Now it is secured in 4 spots, start rotating around and glue all the loose sides one at a time making sure it is even and lined up with the rest of the wreath. This will be the trickiest part.
This paper wreath has the look of those paper snowflakes, but with the classic shape of a wreath, it is a new take no a holiday wreath.
These are fun to make, and each and every one is unique and original, just like a snowflake.
I decided to hang it in the kitchen, above the stove, and I really love it!
