Farmhouse Master Bedroom Plan | One Room Challenge Week 1
You heard me right, it is time for the One Room Challenge once again! If you are new to this, or visiting for the first time, the One Room Challenge is a 6 week remodeling challenge, where we will completely transform one room. This awesome challenge is put on by Calling It Home and I am excited to participate once again!
How does it creep up on me like that? I had all the best intentions of having my crap together well before it was time to start this room remodel, but I find myself, once again, winging it right now. My farmhouse master bedroom plan is very fluid at this point.
I am super excited to makeover my master bedroom into my farmhouse master bedroom oasis I have always dreamed of. I want a getaway, a place where I can feel like I am on vacation in a luxurious, yet simply dressed space.
Right now, my master bedroom is sufficient, but lacks character and a cohesive look. It has always been the space that was neglected and the door kept shut to keep the mess contained.
I have some big plans for this space, my farmhouse master bedroom plan is as follows:
- Install board and batten on the walls
- Build window bench/book shelves around both windows
- Build faux fireplace and mantel with faux brick and a clever way to hang and hide my television
- Tear out carpet and install hardwood flooring
- Replace ceiling fan with beautiful farmhouse lighting
- Install faux beams
- Organize and update our closet
Looking at this list, it seems way less than my master bathrooms list when I remodeled it. I am so thrilled to not be installing tile or tearing out tile, or having a toilet in the shower for 6 weeks. All bonuses in my mind.
Here are some pics of my room currently…..this is my least favorite part of the project, showing the ugly, and messy BEFORE.
We have been in the middle of replacing the trim on the windows and doors, so they are looking really awesome!
Here is a current layout of my bedroom:
And here is what they layout will look like when I am done:
There is a wall near my closet that is getting moved slightly to make the space more functional and I will then be able to use that wall to put my bed.

And here is a bit on an inspiration pic that I have been working on for my farmhouse master bedroom plan with some of the basic styles and materials that I have chosen.
I am toying around with the idea of painting the mantel a grey/bluish color, but I am also really wanting white. These are the basics, and I am still working on a few details, but I really like the farmhouse master bedroom plan so far.
So, now that you have an idea of what I am thinking for this room, here are a few tasks I am hoping to work on this week:
- Order flooring
- Order closet system
- Install board and batten
- Get supplies for built ins and faux beams
Here’s to hoping!!
Let me know what you think! I am eager to hear from you.
It’s going to look fantastic!
