Grilled Chicken Souvlaki Skewers With Flatbread and Tzatziki Sauce

This week I have been a bit obsessed with my favorite greek foods…and today I want to share the icing on the cake, Chicken Souvlaki Skewers!  This week I have shared my favorite flatbread recipe and my favorite Tzatziki sauce to go with it.

Today though, we are going to talk about the yummy chicken souvlaki that ties all these recipes together.  I am excited to share my grilled Chicken Souvlaki with  some of my blogging friends asa well all share our favorite grilled recipe.  Check them out at the bottom of the post.

Like I have said before, I live in an area where we don’t have a ton of restaurants and conveniences.  This has created a desire to come up with some of our favorite dishes at home where we can enjoy them anytime.  Chicken souvlaki is one of those dishes.

We have been making this dish for years!  I love this stuff.  You can stuff it on a pita or flatbread and top with lettuce onion and tzatziki sauce.  Why not grill it up and add it to the top of a greek salad.  Oh my gosh its so good.  And finally, you can eat it naked, right off the skewer, dip it in some tzatziki sauce and you will be in heaven.

Whatever you choose, this will be a hit for the family and friends.  My husband and I often share the grilling responsibilities.  I often do most the inside stuff while he grills the meat….which I don’t mind since I dont want to smell like BBQ all the time.

Lets talk about how I make my chicken souvlaki

The first thing I do is grab some raw chicken breasts.  I cut them into about 1 1/2 inch cubes.  Once they are all cut, I put them in a plastic bag.

Its time to make the marinade.

I mix red wine vinegar, lemon juice, olive oil, and dried oregano together and pour over the chicken.  It needs to marinate  for at least 2 hours.  I usually don’t go past 4 hours.

While the chicken is marinating, I like to soak my wooden skewers in water so that they will be able to be grilled.

After the chicken has marinated, I add the chicken pieces to the skewers.  During this time, I turn on the grill and let it heat up.

Then its time to put them on the grill.

Grill it on one side for about 6 minutes and then rotate it and cook the other side.  The smaller the pieces are the faster it will cook so keep that in mind.

Once they are all done it is time to eat!  I love eating this grilled chicken souvlaki as a sandwich, wrapped up with my homemade flatbread.

Grilled chicken souvlaki

All I can say is yum!  I love this meal and more important, my kids love this meal.  This is by far their most favorite meal I make.  If they could eat it everyday they would…but I on the other hand don’t really want to make homemade flatbread everyday.
