Guest Bedroom Essentials For A Safe and Enjoyable Visit

Now that people are traveling more and spending time together, I thought it was time to chat about prepping a guest bedroom for all the things you might want for your next guest that comes to stay at your home. With the uncertainty of the last year getting back to normal is a necessity for me and my family and having family visit in our home is top of the list. There are things you can do to make their stay safe and enjoyable and I want to share those guest bedroom essentials with you today.

Many of us might not have a full extra bedroom or spare room to dedicate as a guest bedroom. Whether you have an entire bedroom, an office/bedroom combination or are kicking using a current family members bedroom as their guest quarters, the things I want to share can be done in all circumstances. I also want to share how I used Walmart Home, Walmart.com and their new Wow & Now section in my bedroom.

Wow & Now is Walmarts new fun trendy shopping area where you can browse for trendy and fun home items. I was able to find things from rice cookers, throw pillows and kitchen items to fun and trendy home decor items throw blankets and so much more! This new section is a great place to find those fun accents to add to your home, guest bedroom, kitchen, and more.

Comfortable Bed

The most important element in a guest bedroom is to have a nice, clean and comfortable bed. We decided to give our guest bedroom a bit of a makeover thanks to Walmart and found this amazing bed on their website. I wanted something a bit more clean lined and modern to go with the soothing color palette of the room. This bed is a great combination of wood with the softness of an upholstered headboard.

Cozy Bed Linens

This is another very important element. I love the striped sheets I was able to get on Walmart.com as well as the linen duvet cover! White bedding is my go to, and its much easier to keep clean and know if it is clean. I love the throw pillows that I got from Walmarts Wow & Now section. This set of boho cream pillows is perfect on the cozy bed and the leather pillow cover is another great element I got on Walmart.com.

Bedside table

This is also an important element to have in a guest bedroom. You could add fresh flowers to the table, a couple books, and a table lamp to give the space a homey and functional feel.

 

Extra Blankets and pillows

I find this to be an absolute here in our area, especially in the winter. We have chilly nights even in the summer so having extra pillows and blankets so that your guests can be comfortable and sleep well is very important. I like to put mine in a basket or other container. I got this adorable basket from Walmart’s new Wow & Now section as well!

Fresh towels

Fresh towels are key. As a guest, you definitely do not want to be searching cabinets looking for clean towels. By adding them to a basket in their room, they know they are clean and have been set aside for them. I also like to include lotion or body wash since often times this is something that we forget to pack. These fluffy towels are my absolute favorite and have been using them in my home for years. Of course, they are from Walmart as well.

Comfortable Seating

I also find a comfortable seat important in a guest bedroom. This gives them a place to put on shoes, or simply relax. This leather chair goes so well with the bed and compliments the leather pillow as well.  I love the striped pillow I was able to find on Walmarts website as well.

 

Small Desk

We added a small desk to the guest bedroom. This gives them a place to work if needed as well as a place to put their personal items. If you use the space as a home office already this will not be an issue.

Soothing Color Palette

For my guest bedroom I chose a very soothing color palette and decided to paint this mural on the wall where the bed would go! Yes, that is a mural painted by myself! I think that it gives the space such a serene feeling and I love how it turned out. The combination of the mural, the cozy bed and the soft linens make this a spot any guest would love to stay in.

 

 

Sufficient Lighting

We decided to change out the light in this room for one that was more stylish and provided more light. It is a pretty addition to the room. With the task lighting from the table reading lamp, our guests will have options to keep this space perfect for them. Adding a dimmer switch on your light is also a great thing to do.

Throw Blanket

Remember those blankets! You cannot go wrong by adding a couple throw blankets to a space for impromptu naps or just in case they get chilly.

 

Games or Reading material

We added some of our Vintage board games to the shelf as well as some books to add a touch of whimsey to the room.

Place to set their luggage

It is nice to have a bench or shelf where they can set their luggage so that it is not on the floor. I added one of our DIY benches to the foot of the bed where they can set their luggage.

Wifi Password

Believe it or not this is probably the most important addition to your guest bedroom. The amount of times I am asked for our Wi-fi password is kind of comical. Now we have a place where we can keep it on this fun felt letter board! I got this from Walmart’s Wow & Now and my kids absolutely love it.

Basket or Treats, Water, and Antibacterial Spray

What about a fun little welcome basket with snack and water? I think this is a very thoughtful thing that you can do for your guests. I also added one of my favorite antibacterial sprays in the basket. This is a simple gesture that you can do to show your guests that you care.  These guest bedroom essentials take it up a notch.

Window Treatments

Window treatments such as curtains, blinds or blackout shades are all great options. This gives your guests the option of waking up with the sun or if they are sensitive sleepers, to have a dark place to sleep in the morning.

Full-Length Mirror

Lastly, a fully length mirror is a great idea for a guest bedroom. We did not put one in ours since we have a bathroom connected to the bedroom. But often times, this is not the case and its nice for you guests to be able to get ready without worry.

Its the little things that make the most impact and by using these suggestions as a jumping off point you can create a guest space perfect for your next set of visitors. With a little creativity, you can turn any space into guest quarters. Having a simple sleeper sofa, blackout curtains, and thoughtful touches can let your guests know you truly thought about their comfort.

There are so many guest bedroom ideas out there and I think that it is important to find something that works for you and your lifestyle as well as your guests. I want a comfortable guest bedroom where my guests are happy to stay. It needs to be a welcoming place for your house guests.
