How to Make Homemade Ranch Dressing
Homemade ranch dressing is practically a food group in our home. My kids love ranch. They eat it with pizza, veggies, their salads, with chicken, and so much more! I have found it a hassle to purchase those packets of dry ingredients. And over the past couple of years I have been working on my own homemade ranch dressing recipe. You cant pay me enough to eat that pre-made stuff off the shelf in the stores. No thank you. So lets talk about why we should make our own homemade ranch dressing.
First of all, I can almost guarantee that you have everything already in your home to make this delicious ranch dressing. There is one secret ingredient that I add that just adds that little but extra…and its dill. In the summer we grow a large amount of dill in the garden which makes having a fresh batch of ranch every couple weeks so very easy!
One of the main reasons I started making my own was because of my kids. You see, I buy that bulk ranch dressing powder at Coscto, and me being unaware, don’t notice when my kids use this powder on their popcorn, which happens a couple times a week. So, when I get ready to pull out that ranch seasoning to use for a recipe or dressing, I find an empty carton! It happens every time. So, this homemade ranch dressing has saved me so many times!
The advantages to making your own ranch dressing is first, that you are making something without all those preservatives and artificial flavors. Second, this dressing tastes so good! Third, you know exactly what is in your dressing. Fourth, did I mention its so yummy? And fifth, well, its a great skill to have to be able to easily make your own dressings at home, it can actually save you a bit of money!
Honestly, I feel like lately I have been wanting to be more self sufficient. Being able to make those staples I need at home is very gratifying and very important in the small town that we live in. Hence the new additions this year including goats and chickens. Just one step closer to being a bit more self sufficient.
How easy is this to make? Well, I always have sour cream, mayo, milk, and spices in my house, so why not put them to good use and make my own homemade ranch dressing!
How to make your own delicious homemade ranch dressing
It’s really quite simple. I take all the ingredients in the recipe below and blend it up in the blender. I then keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, but it usually doesn’t last that long!
Here are some of the spices I add to my homemade ranch dressing recipe. I store my bulk spices in mason jars on my kitchen shelves. They are so convenient and super cute too!
Homemade Ranch Dressing Recipe:
Homemade Ranch Dressing
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup mayonaise
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp fresh dill(dry dill can work as well but use 1/2 tsp) this can be an optional ingredient if you do not like dill)
- 1/2 tsp granulated garlic
- 1/2 tsp granulated onion
- 1/2 tsp salt
- pepper to taste
- 1-2 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until they are creamy.
- Place in the fridge in a jar or tupperware and let it sit for about 30 minutes. You can always eat it right away, but I like to let it sit for a bit.
- It stays good in the fridge for up to 2 weeks~
