What makes these rice krispy treats different from a traditional rice krispy treat recipe.
- Instead of using just butter and marshmallows we use sweetened condensed milk as well as salt and peanut butter chips in this recipe.
- You need a bit more rice crispy cereal to make these just the right consistency.
- Because rice krispy treats are so sweet, the salt and peanut butter chips add a nice balance to the sweet, but you may not even notice the peanut butter flavor, because it is a very mild addition.

Must Try Rice Crispy Treats
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 can(14 oz) Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 bag(10 oz) Miniature Marshmallows
- 8 cups Rice Crisp Cereal
- pinch sea salt
- 1/4 cup peanut butter chips
Instructions
- Measure out your rice crispies and put them in a large bowl. Butter a 9 by 13 baking dish and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, add your butter, marshmallows and sweetened condensed milk. Cook on low heat to medium heat until it comes to a boil. Continue to cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Pour this marshmallow mixture over the rice krispies and start to stir. Once they are about half combined, add the peanut butter chips and a pinch of sea salt. This is my secret ingredient. Continue to stir until all is combined. The chips will melt from the heat of the sauce, but they may not melt all the way which is nice.
- If you find that the combined mixture is too wet, add more rice crispies.
- Pour this into your 9 by 13 pan and spread out with a spatula. Once its spread out in an even layer, use buttered hands or buttered parchment paper and press down into the treats to compress them. You dont have to compress them a lot, but this will just help it hold its shape better and I find the texture of the treats to be better when its done this way. Technically some of the rice crispies get smashed and create a better texture.
- Once they have cooled, you can cut them into pieces and serve!
- Store in a airtight container for 3-4 days. Mine never last that long anyways!

Tips & Tricks
- Use room temperature butter to make this treat an even faster treat to make.
- Add the peanut butter and a pinch of salt last, and try not to let the chips melt all the way. This adds some yummy chunks in the treats.
- Use buttered hands or buttered parchment paper to press down on the rice crispy treats once they are in the pan. Compress the treats so that the texture is a bit tighter. I prefer mine this way. I find when they are loose, it changes the texture and they are not as good to eat.
The combination of the crispy rice cereal, melted butter, and other ingredients create a chewy and delectable treat. These are the best rice krispie treats I have had and my kids love the slight difference from regular rice krispie treats.
Not only is this an easy treat for kids, its also a great gluten free dessert alternative. Adding these couple different ingredients change the classic treats recipe too something just a bit more. There are so many things you can do with rice krispie cereal and this is one of our favorites to make!
