We first built the base/seat frame. Basically a box with one or two middle supports. Then we added seat slats to make it stable for sitting on.

The side pieces, or the armrests have an X recessed into the sides. Make sure you measure it correctly so it all fits together.

We built the back similarly to the sides, with the X shapes inside. Then we added the bottom boards. Made holes for the rope to feed into and then tied secure knots in them.

DIY Porch Swing Using a Crib Mattress

Items Needed

– 2 by 4 Studs – Wood Screws – Crib Mattress – Woven Rope – Wood Stain – Wood Conditioner – Cordless Drill – Impact Driver – Tape Measure

We first built the base/seat frame. Basically a box with one or two middle supports. Then we added seat slats to make it stable for sitting on.

Build the Frame

The side pieces, or the armrests have an X recessed into the sides. Make sure you measure it correctly so it all fits together.

Build the Sides

We built the back similarly to the sides, with the X shapes inside. Then we added the bottom boards. Made holes for the rope to feed into and then tied secure knots in them.

The Back and the Ropes

Once built, all you need to do is stain, finish, and add the crib mattress! Find out more on my website!
